A Mean, Discriminating Store? Really?? [Female; Age 14; New Jersey]
Discrimination takes on many different guises. Recently a 14 year old girl from New Jersey discovered a local retail store discriminating in a very different way.
Someone told me recently that a retail store has put signs in front of it banning certain types people from entering the store. I am told that the signs include phrases such as “no losers”, “no fats”, and “no uglies”. This makes me very upset for many reasons. I list two of those reasons below. I hope this list will spark bigger ideas. Please let me know what you think:
1. Have we not learned from people like Martin Luther King Jr? Have we not matured and become a better nation? Even though this is just one store discriminating, it is still something very bad.
2. If the store owner thinks that having certain types of people shop at their store will give the store a bad reputation, they are the ones giving the bad rep to themselves in my opinion!
I personally decided to make a private protest against this store and will no longer step foot in this store.
We’d like to inspire conversation on this issue of discrimination.
